purple and red party

by Catiana Jean
(New York)

hello party planner

I was originally planning a 25th birthday party with the colors purple and red but I'm having trouble finding tablecloth linens or table runners this color. i have these beautiful tall purple vases that look like drinking glasses that I wanted to put some red and purple flowers in. However, because of the purple vases I'm having trouble figuring out what color the table linens should be, and where can I get them. I live in NY and i've looked at even fabric stores. What do you suggest?

Purple and Red Table Cover Ideas
by: Krista Blaes

What a fantastic, bold party palette. I suggest you use a purple tablecloth, either solid or with a subtle tone-on-tone pattern in the weave. Place a red sheer or embellished overlay on top. BBJ Linens has some great options. I absolutely love their Red Payette overlay which is covered in red, circular sequins. The effect of the overlay on purple with your vases and flowers would be stunning. You can see the overlay by visiting:

If you are looking for a more affordable solution. Use one of your colors for the tablecloth, one with the tone-on-tone weave would be best. Then purchase purple and red organza fabrics for the runner. Artfully intertwine the fabric, nesting your vases inside for a soft effect.

Don't rule out polka dots, either. You can use the purple base color and an overlay of sheer red fabric with satin dots. Still a great visual, but fun an whimsical.
