Oscar Party of the Year
by: Krista Blaes

It's difficult to come up fresh ideas that will wow guests. Make an impression by focusing on a few over-the-top touches.

Go all out for the food table or beverage station. Anything glitzy or glamorous will work for decorating. Try scattering acrylic diamond confetti, use red velvet for table coverings and black feather boas to accent table surfaces. Use books or boxes to elevate serving trays and dishes. Just throw sparkling fabric over the top to hide. Ask guests to bring actor or movie inspired foods such as Precious Party Mix, Sandra Bullock Buffalo Wings, etc. You can find menu ideas at: www.epicurious.com/articlesguides/holidays/oscars/oscars. Serve a signature drink, pre-poured in eye catching glasses with fun swizzle sticks. Make individual desserts in martini glasses.

Encourage guests to dress like their favorite movie stars, past or present. Give away inexpensive gold statue awards for Best Look-Alike, Best Appearance, Most Creative, etc. For invitations, try invites designed to look like press passes or old-fashioned movie reels and enclose in envelope marked with And The Winner Is?Send inexpensive Hollywood style sunglasses along with invitation, so guests can be ready to hit the red carpet in style.

For entertainment, play an Oscars® version of Pictionary, charades or Trivial Pursuit. There are many websites that give Oscar Award theme party game ideas. Check these out: http://partythemeshop.com/oscar/ or http://www.celebrations.com/article/Oscar-Party-Games.

If weather permits, have party areas inside and outside. Make a red carpet area to welcome guests. Have life-size cardboard cutouts of famous actors from www.windycitynovelties.com. Take photos of guests arriving and send to them by e-mail after the party.

I hope some of these ideas help make your celebration the party of the year!
