Movie Party Theme

A movie party theme can be a great way to spend time with friends and enjoy a movie from the comfort of your own home. How can you make this a special event?

You can set the mood in the room by cutting out a "Hollywood" sign and putting it up on the way. Also consider making some other movie theme party supplies such as a megaphone, scene marker, or the "happy and sad" theatre faces. If you have posters of favorite movies or actors, put these up as well.

You can also set the theme of the room and decorations to match the movie. For example, if you're planning a "Lord of the Rings" marathon, you could mark each person's place written on a gold ring (cut out from construction paper or from a toilet paper inner roll spray-painted gold), have a wizard hat on the food table, and invite guests to dress as their favorite character. See the movie party decorating kit for all the needed decorations and supplies.

Set the room so that all of your guests will be able to see the screen and be comfortable. Setting up the room as a mini-theatre can be fun as long as everyone is able to relax. (One of the reasons to have the party is because it's more relaxing than the movie theatre!) Even if you have guests sit on the couch and recliners, you can create a theatre feel by making some "exit" signs to hang on the wall and marking the isle with yellow duct tape.

What types of food and drink should you serve? You never go wrong with traditional candies, popcorn and pop. An assortment of appetizers is also a good choice, as finger foods are good while watching a movie. Again, if you're using the movie itself as your theme, use this as inspiration for your menu.

Using the "Lord of the Rings" example, you probably won't be able to make a bread that will keep your guests feeling full for hours, but having some flatbread on the menu can be a fun option. A variety of party foods and drink (such as ale) from The Shire is a bit more appetizing.

See our theme party recipe cookbook for tons of recipe ideas.

For a movie party theme, remember that the most important thing is to ensure everyone is comfortable and enjoys spending time together and watching the movie. With a bit of planning and creativity, you can sit back and enjoy!
