Ideas for a graduation/moving away party

by Bonnie-Jean Brown
(New Hampshire)

I am planning a High School Graduation/Moving Picnic for June. Shortly after my daughter graduates we are moving to Oregon from New Hampshire. We thought it best to combine the two themes and have a big picnic in our backyard. How do we combine the themes, decorate, games, etc. We are moving to Oregon so one idea was to have a trivia game for guests. Any other ideas? Since we are moving we'd like to discourage a lot of gifts not sure how to go about this tactfully. Would it be inappropriate to have a money tree or would we be best to just have a card box available. How do you tactfully let guest know? Not sure if I should mention this in the invites. We'd welcome any ideas you might have.

Graduation/Moving Away party ideas

The idea of involving the move to Oregon is a great idea. Try decorating tables with little touches from your new home state, like cute, stuffed beavers, mini pine trees and scattered pine cones. Buy faux grass tablecloth for food table and see if you can get a few arrangements of the Oregon State Flower, the Oregon Grape.

Hand out Oregon State trivia sheets. Draw the top winners and give away the stuffed beavers and plants as prizes.

As far as gifts, you can state in the invitations - no gifts necessary or no gifts please, but etiquette states you shouldn?t suggest cash gifts.

Best wishes for a wonderful event!
