Creating a Unique Christmas Party Theme

The holiday season is a magical time filled with friends, family and traditions. It brings with it a multitude of celebrations and parties. But, for those that wish to host a party with unique touches, it can be difficult to come up with new ideas. But, if you are like me, half the fun is rising to the challenge.

Perhaps the secret to success is adding your unique touch to an existing theme or picking an element of a tradition and using it to guide you. Here are some ideas:

Christmas Traditions Near and Far

Blend your Country’s traditions with that of another. In France, fish dishes are the main highlight of Christmas dinner. In years past, they would scatterfish scales under Christmas dinner plates or under the tablecloth with the belief that doing so would usher in wealth to the house. To make it a morefestive addition to your party try scattering metallic confetti instead. Perhaps it won’t bring you monetary gain, but it can enrich your celebration.

Another idea is a French inspired table decoration. Pere Noel, is the French equivalent of Santa Claus, but instead of a sack, his presents are carried in a basket on his back, like those carried by grape harvesters. What a beautiful centerpiece - an overturned basket with sugared grapes, frosted greenery and festive, small, wrapped packages. Or choose to be more obvious and have an Eiffel Tower with twinkling lights amidst your other decorations. There are no rules and the blending of traditions doesn’t have to be literal. Put your own spin on it.

Five Golden Rings

Take an aspect of the holiday season and enhance it with unique a Christmas party theme. For example, why not use five golden rings from the “Twelve Days of Christmas” as inspiration? The simple shape of the circle and the richness of gold teamed with candlelight makes a breathtaking combination. For your food table, incorporate gold, circular chargers and gold-rimmed stemware. Add gold beaded circular place mats and napkin rings. Top it off with gold ornaments, foliage and accent pieces. You could even suspend varying sizes of gold metal rings from the ceiling with fishing line. Watch them twist and turn, catching the light. The possibilities are endless.

Whatever path you take to creating this year’s Christmas party idea, you are sure to have fun and your efforts won’t go unnoticed.
